Bangkok Airways reduces flights

Bangkok March 9, 2020: Bangkok Airways will cut flights as
and the termination of certain national and international routes as a passenger
Demand is dropping mainly due to the global Covid-19 outbreak.

The airline is shortening some routes at the beginning of the summer flight schedule at the end of March with the ominous description “until further notice”.

Chiang Rai loses three Bangkok Airways flights from the Thai capital eight years after the service started. The airline will cut one of the three daily flights on March 11 and the other two will leave the summer flight schedule on May 4.

The airline is also canceling some international flights from Bangkok until further notice. They are Mumbai in India, Vientiane in Laos and Cam Ranh and Phu Quoc in Vietnam.

The airline also cut overheads last month to reduce them
Operating costs, including asking employees to say goodbye without pay
some employees fired.

The airline’s communications indicate that it has suffered a double
both the global economic slowdown and the impact of COVID-19
Epidemic.

However, the airline is particularly hard hit in Europe, where it does much of its business for its regional flights from Bangkok to destinations in Asia and domestic flights in Thailand. The airline mainly appeals to foreign tourists who fly to Bangkok with long-haul airlines that have codeshare deals with Bangkok Airways for onward flights in the region.
