Basuki Hands Over Normalization of the Ciliwung River to Anies Baswedan

Normalization of the Ciliwung River is one of the projects to overcome flooding in Jakarta. However, the project is still hampered by land acquisition issues.

Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Basuki Hadimuljono requested that the issue of the normalization of the Ciliwung River be asked to the Governor of DKI Jakarta Anies Baswedan. This was conveyed by Basuki when asked about the continuation of the normalization of the Ciliwung River.

“Ask Mr. Anies,” said Basuki, laughing, at the Ministry of Trade (Kemendag), Jakarta, Tuesday (11/10/2022).

Basuki confirmed that the previous land acquisition had not yet started. In fact, the normalization of the Ciliwung River depends on land acquisition by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government.

Meanwhile, Basuki explained, the sodetan or tunnel project from Ciliwung to the East Flood Canal (BKT) continues. He said, one tunnel is now through.

“The bypass is already running. The Ciliwung to BKT is already progressing, one tunnel has been penetrated,” he added.

The Ciliwung Sodetan is targeted to be completed in February or March next year. Meanwhile, for the normalization of the Ciliwung River, he has not been able to target.

Basuki continued, his party is also pursuing the target of building the Ciawi and Sukamahi dams. The two dams are targeted for completion in December 2022 and can function once they are completed.

“It’s a dry dam, so the dam is dry, it only fills up during the rainy season and then we drain it slowly so that it becomes a rain catcher. So it doesn’t flow directly into Ciliwung, but is detained first and then released little by little,” he explained.

For information, Anies’ term will end on October 16, 2022. Then, based on detikcom 2021 records, Director of Rivers and Coasts of the Directorate General of Water Resources at the PUPR Ministry, Bob Arthur Lombogia at that time, explained that the normalization of the Ciliwung River was carried out for 33 kilometers (km) but only 16 km was realized at that time. This realization has not changed since 2018.

“So if Ciliwung we want to normalize the plan to 33 km, but only about 16 km has been realized, so 17 km will still be carried out. Later we will work together with the DKI government to handle the DKI government. We will continue when we are free so we can work on it at once,” he explained to detikcom, February 21, 2021.
