Becoming the Backbone of the Country’s Economy, MSME Actors are Encouraged to Upgrade – The Ministry of Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises (Kemenkop-UKM) notes that Indonesia has 64.19 million micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in 2021.

The MSME sector contributes 61.97 percent to the national gross domestic product (GDP) or IDR 8,500 trillion in 2020. This sector has also succeeded in absorbing 97 percent of Indonesia’s total workforce. Not surprisingly, this sector is also relied upon as the backbone of the country’s economy.

Seeing this potential, the government through Kemenkop-UKM continues to promote a series of programs and activities to create reliable human resources (HR). This effort is expected to encourage MSMEs to upgrade.

Deputy for Micro Enterprises of the Ministry of Cooperatives-UKM, Eddy Satriya said, one of the programs that had been implemented was to provide certification facilities to MSME actors.

“Kemenkop-UKM held food safety education to obtain Certificates of Home Industry Food Production (SPP-IRT) for 100 micro businesses,” said Eddy as reported by, Sunday (5/6/2022).

In addition, Kemenkop-UKM also facilitated human resource development by training 840 micro businesses and providing legal assistance for 500 micro and small businesses in 11 regions.

In order for MSMEs to upgrade, continued Eddy, his party has also provided technical guidance to MSMEs so they can onboarding ke platform ecommerce at the same time enter e-catalog Government Goods/Services Procurement Policy Institute (LKPP). The training targets 250 MSMEs.

Not only the government, other parties have also made similar efforts, from the private sector to financial institutions. One of them was carried out by PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia (Persero) Tbk or BRI.

BRI Micro Business Director Supari said that his party prioritized aspects of empowerment and assistance in strengthening the business ecosystem initiated by the community at the grassroots level.

“Hopefully, there will be acceleration so that MSME actors can upgrade their class or the scale of their business will get bigger. We hope that this effort can strengthen the community’s economic resilience,” said Supari as reported by, Thursday (27/10/2022).

Previously, BRI had also successfully presented Growpreneur on Thursday (15/9/2022). Meanwhile, Growpreneur is one of a series of Road to BRI UMKM EXPO (RT) BRILIANPRENEUR 2022, which is an empowerment and assistance activation program for MSMEs.

Through Growpreneur, BRI presents various programs, both regular, community and mini-incubation.

While. WORRY Menkop UKM Teten Masduk inaugurated Growpreneur, an MSME assistance program initiated by BRI and Smesco Indonesia, Thursday (15/9/2022).

The Growpreneur program itself was inaugurated by the Minister of Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises (Menkop and UKM) Teten Masduki.

Teten said that various empowerment activities could be utilized by Growpreneur member MSMEs, such as speed dating between sellers and buyers, panel discussions, networking and strategic partnership, local brand showcase, creative cornermentoring, as well business matching.

“The Growpreneur Program can open new opportunities for the growth of Indonesian MSMEs. This is in accordance with Growpreneur’s mission, which is to inspire, innovate, and connect networks between MSMEs, entrepreneurial ecosystems, creative industries, and adaptive digital infrastructure,” explained Teten in a press release received by, Thursday (22/9/2022) .

MSME empowerment through people’s parties

In order to encourage MSMEs to upgrade, BRI also presents MSME empowerment programs, such as the Simpedes People’s Party (PRS) which is held every year. From July to December 2022, this event will be held at 379 points in Indonesia, from Sumatra to Papua.

On the 10th event, PRS was held in Mojokerto, East Java (East Java). With the theme “Confident to Lead Change”, BRI invites all MSMEs in Indonesia to be confident or ask in innovating and doing business in order to bring significant positive changes to the Indonesian economy.

Supari explained that the PRS 2022 event also aims to educate regarding digitalization of finance while at the same time increasing the empowerment of MSMEs through financial services.

“PRS 2022 is expected to increase public financial literacy, empower and grow MSME actors, and provide complete services to all BRI Simpedes Savings customers,” said Supari in a press release received, Monday (21/11/2022).

To note, there are six pillars that are carried out in the PRS event, namely the Market, X’sis Corner, Care, Parade, Harvest, and Stage.

The Market pillar aims to unite the community through a variety of attractive products from 150 local leading MSMEs.

Then, X’Sis Corner is an area selfie or photobooth, e-sport communitySimpedes playground, and Simpedes games for visitors.

The next pillar, Peduli, presents free health check services for visitors. In addition, visitors can also donate blood during event going on. Male visitors, ranging from 10 years old to adults, can also cut their hair for a fee of IDR 1 which is paid using QRIS BRImo.

Meanwhile, the Parade is a survey, education or literacy activity, as well as the acquisition of BRI Simpedes and BRImo for market traders.

Then, there is the Harvest pillar which is the Simpedes prize drawing event and door prize for visitors.

Finally, the stage is a medium of entertainment. Komika as well as local and national artists will fill the pillars of the Stage.

For information, the 10th PRS 2022 began with market raids from Sunday (20/11/2022) to Thursday (24/11/2022). This event starts at 07.30 to 14.00 West Indonesia Time (WIB).

The activities targeted 10 traditional markets, namely Mojoagung Market, Tanjung Anyar Market, Pon Jejer Market, Gedangan Market, Larangan Market, Porong Market, Krian Market, Prambon Market, Peterongan Market, Ploso Market and Citra Niaga Market.

This activity is one of BRI’s efforts to encourage the use of digital money and payments cashless.

Meanwhile, the peak of PRS 2022 Mojokerto will be held at Raden Wijaya Surodinawan Field, from Friday (25/11/2022) to Sunday (27/11/2022).

To be able to enter the PRS area, visitors only need to download the BRImo application and pay IDR 1 by scanning the QRIS at ticket box provided.

All visitors are required to scan the QR code through the PeduliLindungi application before entering the PRS area.
