The Phoronix server published tests of the Orange Pi 5 yesterday and compared the performance with the Raspberry Pi 400. It is an Orange Pi 5 without B, i.e. an older model than the one we wrote about today. However, both models are essentially identical except for storage and WiFi. In the test, the same SD card was used for both Orange Pi 5 and Raspberry Pi 400.
Orange Pi 5 has a processor 4x Cortex-A76 2.4 GHz + 4x Cortex-A55 1.8 GHz, i.e. a total of 8 cores. In contrast, the Raspberry Pi 400 has 4x Cortex-A72 1.8 GHz. In 52 tests, the Orange Pi averages 5 2,85× faster than the Raspberry Pi 400. Interestingly, the Orange Pi 5 CPU temperature averaged 71°C and peaked at 85°C. All this without a cooler. A few degrees lower with a passive cooler. So it is possible that with quality cooling the performance will be even better.
