Karim Benzema, a forward for Real Madrid, was sentenced to one year in prison exempt from compliance for complicity in blackmail in 2015 with a sex video of his former teammate Mathieu Valbuena. This sentence will be appealed by the French when he considers himself innocent.

Tonight the striker who will play an important duel in the Champions League in Moldova, did not go to Versailles to hear the verdict of the well-known “Valbuena case”, or the sentence to one year in prison exempt from compliance. Two months longer than what the Prosecutor’s Office had requested.

In addition to this, it must compensate Valbuena with 80 thousand euros to whom the court recognized a high moral damage.

The verdict has also taken into account the influence that Benzema could have had on Valbuena, as he was one of the pillars of the selection, who addressed the victim in order, “through subterfuge and lies, to convince him to accept the blackmail.”

Benzema is currently going through a great sporting moment, he has become the star of his team, rehabilitated in the national team and one of the favorites to win the Ballon d’Or, which will be delivered next Monday.
