WASHINGTON (Reuters) – U.S. President Joe Biden has urged Russian President Vladimir Putin not to use tactical nuclear and chemical weapons in the wake of Ukraine’s deteriorating war situation. He said in an interview with CBS News on the 18th.

Ukrainian forces have launched a full-scale counteroffensive in the east, liberating areas occupied by Russian forces.

Mr Putin has threatened to respond more forcefully to any further pressure on his military, raising fears that it could resort to using small nuclear weapons and chemical weapons.

Asked what he would say if Putin were thinking of using such weapons, Mr Biden reiterated: “Don’t do that,” adding: It will change the face of war, which is unlike anything else.”

He said the U.S. response would be “consequential” but did not go into details. “(Russia) will be more alienated in the world than ever before,” he said. “What they do will determine how we respond.”
