Birkebeinerrennet – Andreas Nygaard in History – Sports Infos – Ski

A fantastic double

Andreas Nygaard, a colossus of 31, has just written one of the most beautiful pages in the history of long distances. After having triumphed at Mora, at the end of the 90km of the Vasaloppet, he won at Lillehammer at the end of the 54km of the Birkebeinerrennet.

Very solid during the first half of the race, the most difficult with a rising profile, Nygaard then bided his time, during the last 20 kilometers much more slippery.

He will remain calm within a group of 18 cross-country skiers and wait, as during the Vasa, for the sprint to let his enormous power speak. Impressive and untouchable, he won this 2022 edition ahead of the Swedes Max Nowak and Emil Persson, in 2h30.

Martin Löwstroem Nyenget, winner of the Oslo 50km in the World Cup, finished at the foot of the podium.

A fine achievement by Frenchman Thomas Joly, who remained with the best throughout the race, before taking an excellent 8th place.
