If you can not see the first Starcraft, you have a new option: In Battle.net, a mod called Cartooned is officially available for around 10 euros. Through the Reskin all units, maps, menus, missions and whatever else belongs to the game in the cartoon style can be seen. Gameplay has no effect on the game, multiplayer games between players with and without cartooned should be possible according to the developers without restrictions.
Behind Starcraft Cartooned is a team called Carbot Animations, which has been creating animated videos based on Blizzard games for years, including Warcraft and Diablo. In parts of the community, the films created with a noticeable amount of love are considered cult.
In order to use Starcraft Cartooned, players need in addition to the Mod also Starcraft Remastered, ie the 2017 redesigned graphically revised edition of the originally published in 1998 real-time strategy game.
Remastered is also available for download on Battle.net for about 15 Euro. A bundle with cartooned costs about 25 euros – so you do not save money compared to the separate purchase.
Incidentally, there are no indications of a brand new Starcraft right now. As far as known, Blizzard is currently dedicated to the development of already available titles such as Overwatch and Hearthstone, also probably work several teams on one or more projects based on Diablo.
Currently announced is only a mobile game called Diablo Immortal, which will appear in 2019 according to the current status, as well as planned for late August 2019 Classic version of World of Warcraft. Blizzard will not be exhibiting at Gamescom in 2019, and news is expected to be released at Blizzcon in November 2019.
