Aguascalientes, Ags.- This year there has been an increase in the number of people who wish to donate blood at the State Center for Blood Transfusion, after a year where the pandemic complicated this work due to the uncertainty of Covid-19.

The director of the center, Dr. Rocío Dorantes Morales, commented that at the beginning of this year an average of 520 blood donors had been presented per month, however the figure increased to 840 donors.

He explained that throughout the year, more than 11 thousand people have appeared at the Blood Transfusion Center, although only the product of 6,800 citizens has been accepted.

The specialist mentioned that the main factors that slow down the acceptance of a person’s blood are the infections that come to present in their body, such as the presence of cavities, and even the taboos or restrictions that are had regarding donation.

In this sense, he indicated that even people who have suffered Covid-19 and who have overcome the disease can be blood donors after 28 days without symptoms.

He added that about 60% of the population of Aguascalientes shares type O positive blood, which is why it is the one in greatest demand in surgeries or oncological procedures. And although he said that it is difficult to always receive donors with this blood, the center always tries to have reserves in its freezers.

Finally, he pointed out that next year they hope to resume more donation days with the support of different hospitals and educational centers in Aguascalientes.
