The body that was found last night in the IJsselmeer is indeed the 49-year-old man from the municipality of Fryske Marren who was thrown overboard from a sailing ship on Thursday.
The police already suspected this and research confirms it. The body has been transferred to the family, police say.
The man had been launched on Thursday near Breezanddijk, halfway along the Afsluitdijk. According to the Royal Dutch Rescue Society he got a boom against his head. A search by the police, Coast Guard, KNRM and Rijkswaterstaat did not yield any results in the following days.
Yesterday passers-by saw the body near the lock at Kornwerderzand, close to the Frisian coast. It has been salvaged by rescuers.
