Bolsonaro's victory in Brazil is another great success for populism

ERNESTO LONDOÑO:

Well, last year in Brazil there were a record number of homicides – 63,000 people were violently killed here last year. This is an extraordinary number that really shapes the way Brazilians think about the future and think about their options. On the other hand, many of the political elites, many parties that have become the ruling class, if you will, have been involved in this massive corruption investigation in recent decades, exposing the Brazilian Congress and many others to the top companies in the country as you know, essentially consistent and institutionally corrupt.

Jair Bolsonaro came out and said: Do you know how many lawmakers can claim that they have absolutely no objections to their name? You know, I'm clean and I will not bring anyone back in my search for order and improve the status quo in Brasilia, which has made the capital such a hot bed of corruption.
