Brazil crossed the milestone of 60,000 coronavirus deaths on Wednesday, after registering an additional 1,038 deaths in the past 24 hours, the health ministry said.

Brazil, which was the country in the world where Covid-19 killed the most every day for almost a week, has a total of 60,632 deaths, according to data from the ministry, considered as very dumped by the scientific community.

46,712 cases in 24 hours

Also of great concern, the figure for new infections announced on Wednesday is one of the highest ever recorded, with 46,712 additional cases in 24 hours, a sign that the pandemic is far from being controlled in the largest country in Latin America. .

The states of Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro are the most affected, with 15,030 and 10,198 deaths respectively, for nearly 290,000 and 116,000 contaminations.

These two states are however in the process of resuming economic and commercial activities after confinement for more than three months.

In terms of death and contamination – 1.44 million – Brazil, with its 212 million inhabitants, is the country most affected by the coronavirus behind the United States.
