SAO PAULO, Jun 26 (Reuters) – Brazil registered the second highest number of daily coronavirus cases since the start of the pandemic on Friday, with 46,860 infections, bringing the total to 1,274,974, according to the Health Ministry.
The daily figure was only below the almost 55,000 infections verified last Friday, when the ministry assured that there were problems in sending the state data on the eve that affected the high number of the day.
The daily case count has hovered around 40,000 since Tuesday.
In relation to the number of deaths, another 990 deaths were registered due to COVID-19, the respiratory disease caused by the coronavirus, bringing the total to 55,961, the ministry reported.
Brazil is the second country in the world with more cases and deaths due to the virus, behind the United States, which registers nearly 2.4 million confirmed infections and 124,000 deaths.
