BrowserStack, the world’s leading software testing platform, today announced the support of Selenium 4, its automation testing product, in BrowserStack Automate. Selenium 4 was launched in October 2021 and offers a variety of new features that BrowserStack Automate supports by default (no special installation or configuration required).
“BrowserStack’s open source programming team has partnered with the Selenium project and has contributed extensively to Selenium 4 over the past two years. For example, we worked on the rewrite of the Selenium Grid, ”says David Burns, Head of Open Source at BrowserStack and Core Contributor for Selenium. “We also contributed code to important parts such as the observability functions, worked on the supported languages in the connections to the Selenium client, and our interns built the first version of the new Selenium Grid UI and improved GraphQL support.”
One of the most exciting updates is the introduction of “relative locators”, which enable developers to locate page elements based on their relative position to one another, which is particularly helpful when dealing with complex DOM structures. In addition, thanks to the support for the BiDi APIs, developers can monitor console logs of the browser, track JS exceptions and intercept, validate or modify network requests via the NetworkInterceptor.
“The functions of Selenium 4 go beyond pure browser functionality. Automate’s support for all new features of Selenium 4 ensures that users get the maximum benefit from our platform, ”says Nakul Aggarwal, co-founder and CTO of BrowserStack. “We are committed to working closely with the open source community and giving them something back.”
