Nnew things in the West. If Eintracht has to assert itself in Dortmund, the winner is always Borussia. It’s been like this for nine years now, and this time it was clear. The Frankfurt team of coach Adi Hütter lost 0: 4 to BVB on Friday evening.
A well-deserved Bundesliga defeat, which came about through the goals of Lukasz Piszczek (33.), Jadon Sancho (50.), Erling Haaland (54) and Raphael Guerreiro (74.). While the Dortmund shortly advanced to second place in the table, Eintracht remains in ninth place in the midfield of the league.
The home strongest team in the league wanted to make a powerful impression before kick-off. This was initially successful for the fans on the south stand, who showed their city’s reverence with a huge choreography. “Big city Dortmund, my dream!” A big city with a big team? BVB was the third to open the 22nd matchday of the Bundesliga and had to do a lot of hard work. This was due to Eintracht’s courageous appearance, in which Trainer Hütter had opted for the tactical formula 4-1-4-1.
Hütter offered his Austrian compatriot Stefan Ilsanker in front of the chain of four that had been tried and tested for weeks. The defensive player who moved from Leipzig to Frankfurt in the winter transfer period was the desired resting place before the defense. Uncompromisingly, Ilsanker ensured order and even repeatedly found the opportunity to join the offensive game of Eintracht. As expected, it was difficult to get going under floodlights on Friday evening. Eintracht games in Dortmund were ultimately sobering matters. The past eight point games in the largest German football stadium have all been lost.
Borussia struggled against the well-organized Eintracht in the first half, and they needed a free kick to put themselves in front of the Frankfurt goal for the first time. But Guerreiro’s free kick from 20 meters landed only on the right post (9th). After a good half an hour, Achraf Hakimi had a good opportunity to fire. But the Moroccan, who became a father for the first time during the week, was missing Fortüne (32.). A minute later, Captain Piszczek made it better, who scored with the left to 1-0.
Attacks of unity? In short supply. The Hütter-Elf was initially very keen to secure the goal and especially tried to stage Filip Kostic in one of the few relief attacks. But the left wing racer could not prevail decisively. Immediately before the half-time whistle, the 81,365 spectators in the traditionally sold-out stadium were offered the best attack of the game until then. BVB played quickly and directly – and Hakimi was unlucky that his shot went over the goal of Eintracht keeper Kevin Trapp.
Before the beginning of the second half, incorrigible Eintracht chaots literally brought color into play because they ignited Bengalos. The next fine will come for Frankfurt’s long-suffering in this regard. New to the Eintracht team was Bas Dost, which Hütter brought in for Mijat Gacinovic in the second 45 minutes. Another attacker who, together with the Portuguese André Silva, was to put the Dortmund defensive in trouble.
But it was different, very different. BVB struck a second time five minutes after the restart. Sancho took the chance to play through on the free left side and to shoot past the powerless trapp to deserved 2-0. The audience was thrilled – and completely ecstatic when Borussia showed football from the textbook, which Eintracht could only watch in their combinations – and Haaland finished 3-0 (54th). Another goal by the famous Norwegian, and again Trapp had no chance.
But Borussia’s hunger for goal was not yet satisfied. In the 74th minute, Guerreiro scored with an unsustainable low shot for the end in a game in which the Frankfurt could only keep up initially. The run of Eintracht, which had the best second half start of the past fifty years with three wins and a tie, has stopped. Trainer Hütter had somehow seen it come before the trip to the West. “If Dortmund wants to play for the championship, they have to win against us.” On Friday under floodlights, the title aspirant BVB lived up to this claim at 4-0.
