Bundesliga News: Eintracht Frankfurt is in difficult times | Football News

Things are not going really well at Eintracht Frankfurt this season. The performances are like a roller coaster ride. In the top game against RB Leipzig on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. (from 5:30 p.m. live on Sky), a sense of achievement is urgently needed.

What would have been looking forward to this game last season. Eintracht Frankfurt versus RB Leipzig. Two clubs that play fast, attacking football and fight for the Champions League. This season looks very different. The Frankfurters in particular have disappointed so far. Even if it was already clear before the season that it would be difficult without Andre Silva, the SGE should have collected significantly more points.

The balance sheet is sobering. One win, five draws, three defeats, table position 15 and only two points before relegation place. Especially with the five draws you should have been more solid, because then you would be significantly higher up in the table.

Negligence robs important points

In three games they acted negligently while in the lead. Filip Kostic scored the 1-0 against Stuttgart in the 79th minute. Three minutes later, there were only ten people left in Stuttgart. The disillusionment followed with the equalization in the 88th minute. They also led 1-0 for a long time against Wolfsburg and in the end had to share the points. Same phenomenon in Bielefeld.

If the Hessians had brought one or the other lead over the finish line, Frankfurt would not be 15th with eight points, but possibly sixth with 14 points. On the other hand, you have to say: Without the surprising 2-1 win at Bayern Munich you might be even worse off. However, the game in Munich showed that Kostic, Rode and Co. have not forgotten how to play football, but that the team currently only works as a unit.

So far, new additions have not been convincing

But it is precisely this collective that has not existed at Eintracht since the summer. This is particularly noticeable on the offensive. In addition to Silva, Luka Jovic also left Eintracht (again). The two were replaced by Sam Lammers and Rafael Borre. Both newcomers have not been able to convince so far. Are they just staying below their options? Or do the two not fit in with the SBU and the Bundesliga?

Those responsible must have expected more from the Colombian. Borre scored eight goals and put on another in 13 games for River Plate last season. A promising transfer and even free of charge. Lammers were borrowed from Atalanta Bergamo. His last good season was some time ago. In the 2018/2019 season he scored 16 goals in 31 Eredivisie games for SC Heerenveen. He never succeeded in doing something like that again.

Gonzalo Paciencia, returning on loan, cannot match the previous days in the SGE dress. Typical of the offensive lull in Frankfurt: His missed penalty against VfL Bochum.

Does Glasner need more time?

Oliver Glasner will certainly be anything but satisfied. Although the team ran three kilometers more than the opponent, especially against Bochum, some of the Frankfurters would want too much. Nevertheless, he supports his team.

Eintracht coach Oliver Glasner speaks about this year’s form fluctuations in Frankfurt (duration: 38 seconds).

Often times, unity has simply seemed negligent and insecure. Glasner has been in office for nine match days and a real handwriting has not yet been recognized. It is clear that a new coach usually needs time. However, the Austrian was, for example, much more successful at VfL Wolfsburg after nine match days. After taking office in 2019, the Wolves were in fourth place and were unbeaten.

However, the Frankfurters lack offensive penetration, security, compactness on the defensive and, above all, consistency.

A victory is urgently needed against RB

For the new sports director Markus Krösche, who came from Leipzig, none of this is a reason to question the coach.

VfL Wolfsburg have fired their coach – for Markus Krösche and Eintracht, that’s not an option. In an interview with Sky, the sports director explains why Oliver Glasner is allowed to stay – despite the sporting crisis.

In addition to the fluctuations in performance, one or the other player also causes excitement. Amin Younes did a great job last season. After a bill broke in the summer, he went on strike. Work has been going on for a long time to terminate the contract. He in particular could have revived the offensive game of the SGE, but that will not happen again.

Another player could become important against Leipzig. Ex-RB professional Stefan Ilsanker could help his team with his experience and physical style of play. The clearer and driver would be an ideal link between defensive and offensive. Will Eintracht against Leipzig get his second win of the season with him as a stabilizer? Open end…
