Busenaz Sürmeneli secured the Olympic medal

Busenaz competed with Ukrainian athlete Anna Lysenko in the quarter-finals at Kokugikan Arena.

Busenaz, the last world champion, got full points from 5 referees in the first round against his opponent. The national boxer, who showed an aggressive game in the second round, again managed to get full points in all referees. Continuing his superiority in the last round, Busenaz Sürmeneli made his mark in the semi-finals.

Busenaz also made history. The 23-year-old national boxer took his place in history as the first Turkish athlete to secure an Olympic medal in women’s boxing.

The opponent of Busenaz Sürmeneli, who made it to the semi-finals, was Borgohain from India. Busenaz’s semi-final match will start on Wednesday, August 4th at 08:30 CET.

Youth and Sports Minister Mehmet Muharrem Kasapoğlu also followed the match. While Kasapoğlu was following the competition with excitement, he often cheered to motivate the national athlete.
