Deputy Secretary General (Wasekjen) of the National Awakening Party (PKB) Syaiful Huda admitted that his party had been reluctant to fill the position of vice presidential candidate (cawapres) in the joint coalition plan. Gerindra Party.
Huda said the discussion on the matter had reached an agreement. According to him, PKB chairman Muhaimin Iskandar alias Cak Imin will accompany Prabowo in the 2024 presidential election.
“Yes, of course, until today, from our various meetings, there are no other figures besides Pak Prabowo and Gus Muhaimin,” he said. CNNIndonesia.comThursday (28/7).
According to him, the position of vice presidential candidate for PKB in the coalition plan with Gerindra is a political ethic. As the owner of more seats than PKB, Huda considers it natural for Gerindra to nominate Prabowo as a presidential candidate.
Huda said his party now only has 58 seats in the 2019 election. This number lost to Gerindra with 78 seats. However, the combined votes or seats of the two parties have met the presidential nomination threshold requirement of 20 percent.
“So if Gerindra takes the presidential candidate, it’s natural. And PKB taking the vice presidential position is very reasonable. Because it’s part of the political fatun,” he said.
Huda said the plan for a coalition of the two parties would be declared after the Gerindra National Leadership Meeting (Rapimnas) on August 13. Rapimnas, he said, would be held in a series of commemorations of the 17 August Independence Day.
However, Huda refused to reveal the exact date the declaration would be held. According to him, the declaration will be held around Jakarta.
“We will probably announce it in the next week,” he said.
Gerindra previously canceled the Rapimnas meeting on July 30, 2022. Gerindra DPP Daily Chair Sufmi Dasco Ahmad said the Rapimnas would be held on August 13.
According to him, Rapimnas will ask Prabowo’s willingness to run or not in the 2024 presidential election. In addition, according to the plan, Gerindra will announce the party coalition.
“Finally, the Rapimnas for the nomination and announcement of the coalition will be made on August 13, counting the good days,” Dasco told reporters at the parliament complex, Wednesday (27/7).
