Are the young talents who hoisted Cameroon to 2nd place in the 2022 edition of the Huawei ICT Competition. This international competition launched by the telecom giant Huawei, which has reached its 6th edition, saw teams from various countries around the world participate in the grand international final on Saturday June 18, 2022 and the results of which were announced on Saturday June 25. 2022.
The Covid-19 pandemic obliges, the 44 countries competing in this grand final, including Cameroon, participated online and the Cameroon team, supervised by Huawei certified teacher from the University of Douala MAKA MAKA Ebenezer, won the 2nd prize.
After finishing third in the previous edition, this visible progression of Cameroon demonstrates the value of its talents in matters and ICT.
It should be noted that Huawei ICT Competition is an ICT talent competition to promote the development of the ICT talent ecosystem and build a bridge between industry and education. Cameroonian students participated this year online from the offices of Huawei Cameroon in Douala by configuring complex networks during a practical test for 8 hours of time. This very special edition saw the participation of 150,000 students from 2,000 universities and colleges across 85 countries and regions.
DONGMO TEMFACK Kevin Steve, the “captain” of the Cameroon team will say about this: “If there is one thing that I will never forget about this edition, it is the perpetual efforts that we have made to be well prepared. and thus face the regional and world stages of this competition. The nights of hard work and the time spent with my teammates TALLA FOPA Yassair Abdel and KUETE Berry Orian have been very beneficial to me. Without however forgetting the coaching of our instructor Mr. MAKA MAKA Ebenezer as well as the efforts that Huawei Cameroon was leading to help us obtain this success that we had at this world phase. For this, I would like to thank Huawei Cameroon which provided us with the means and tools which were of paramount importance during this preparation”.
It should be noted that this year, Huawei ICT Competition experienced a very large mobilization of students, both nationally (Cameroonian) and internationally.
For Mrs. Edmonde Djiokeng Teboh, Director of Public Relations of Huawei CEMAC zone: “This cooperation between Huawei and Cameroonian universities via MINESUP has long borne fruit both in the transfer and development of skills and in the employability of young Cameroonians who have become today not only more competitive on the job market but also real job creators”. She also indicated that: “Huawei’s wish is that this competition, which is part of the transfer of skills to Cameroonian youth initiated by Huawei since 2016, contributes to the emergence of Cameroon by 2035 as desired. by the President of the Republic HE Paul BIYA through ICT”.
On this point, M. Wilfred NYONGBET GABSA, Secretary General of the Ministry of Higher Education presented on behalf of the Minister of State, Minister of Higher Education his sincere thanks to Huawei for its participation in the development of Cameroon’s digital economy to through ICTs which constitute an essential accelerator for the growth and development of Cameroon. He then congratulated and encouraged the 03 laureates in these words: “you are our indomitable lions on the academic level, our sincere congratulations and our encouragement for your brilliant performance which honors our country and carries its torch very high”.
This other edition of Huawei ICT Competition in Cameroon will have brought together the Government, MINESUP, Universities and the major schools of the country. But also partners such as MTN and CAMTEL who sponsored the national final in December 2021 with various prizes awarded to the 10 best Cameroonian students who won this stage.
