Pick up a saw and cut wood, bake a plait at the bakery or hang on a scaffold in climbing uniform. The wait is finally over. The Zurich career fair will take place again after a forced Corona break. Apprenticeship seekers have the opportunity to gain insight into the various professions and, above all, to talk to current apprentices or long-term employees on site.
Lea Kowalkowski from Rickenbach ZH gets a great first insight. She’s just allowed to take blood from a strange, soft arm. She slowly moves the syringe into the supposed arm and a beam flits across her face. “I’m very interested in the FaGe profession and taking the blood was really cool!” The University Hospital Zurich confirms that the desire to help people has not decreased thanks to Corona, on the contrary. “We received around 300 applications for our 37 apprenticeship positions. This shows that young people are interested in the medical professions, ”says Sabina Lo Turco, vocational training advisor at Zurich University Hospital.
But she also points out that many apprentices are sought after at Spitex, in old people’s homes and less well-known medical centers. It is the same with the catering professions. According to Angela Kellenberger, qualified tourism specialist HF, the corona crisis means that young people are critical. “The young people are very well aware of what happened to the catering industry in the last year and are therefore hesitant about whether they should dare to take the step into the catering sector.” Angela Kellenberger encourages: “We are again offering taster apprenticeships in all areas, such as cook, hotel communications specialist EFZ. We also have many apprenticeship positions open. We are a big industry and need young talent. “
No matter what profession it should be. The young people gain insights into around 500 apprenticeships, basic and further training courses at the largest career fair in Switzerland and the goal is clear: At the end of the day, everyone should have come one step closer to their career aspirations.
