Director Laura Lackmann (“Mängelexemplar”) staged the material with Moritz Bleibtreu as “Caveman” for the cinema. As a previously unsuccessful car salesman Bobby, he dreams of a career as a comedian. He gets his big break at an open mic night at the local comedy club. He already has the perfect theme for the performance ready, because he recently met the Caveman – his imaginary friend from the Stone Age. Since then he has exchanged ideas with the caveman and believes that thanks to his alter ego he can finally better understand the difference between men and women.
Spontaneous program change
But there is a problem – that means Claudia Müller (Laura Tonke) and is married to Bobby. However, minutes before his big performance, Claudia leaves him and the battered Bobby drags himself onto the stage and spontaneously changes his programme. He takes viewers on a wild ride through his relationship – from the first meeting to the breakup.
“Heartfelt and intelligent silliness”
Moritz Bleibtreu himself calls the piece “a heartfelt and intelligent silliness” at the premiere, stern voices consider the sometimes flat man-woman humor to be outdated. The film is certainly amusing and entertaining, just because of the witty acting of the main actors.
