“It is time to close different business lines and suspend activities to encourage people to stay at home, both workers and other citizens to avoid transmission,” said the head of the Government of Mexico City, Claudia Sheinbaum, at a press conference.
This restriction measure does not include pharmacies or supermarkets, which must take preventive measures of healthy distance when customers enter the establishment and for the care of staff.
It is estimated that in Mexico City there are 338 shopping malls.
“As for large stores, we aim to open only the self-service ones. Those that remain open must have healthy distance policies and consumers should not go as a family, but one by one, “said Sheinbaum.
Claudia Sheinbaum said some will also be closed National Parks.
This closure measure aims to flatten the contagion curve which in recent days has increased markedly, 205 cases of people infected by coronavirus have been registered in the country’s capital alone, and is also part of the campaign #Stay at home.
With these measures, the Government of the Mexican capital intends to follow the example of other countries to reduce the number of infections.
Sheinbaum pointed out that they don’t want to establish fines or penalties.
“People are cooperating,” but more people need to stay home, he said.
