Dublin: Ireland’s Simi Singh became the first batsman to score a century in eighth ODI cricket. Simi, who is of Indian descent, set a record against South Africa yesterday. South Africa won the match by 70 runs, but the world noticed Simi’s batting performance.
Batting first, South Africa scored 346 for four in 50 overs. Openers Janeman Malan (177 *) and Quinton de Kok (120) scored centuries.
In reply, Ireland were 92 for six, finishing eighth at the SIMI crease.
Simi was unbeaten on 100 off 91 balls, including 14 fours, but was all out for 276 in 47.1 overs. Born in Batlana, Punjab, Simi Singh has been playing for the Ireland national team since 2017. Bowling is an all-rounder. The series ended in a 1-1 draw.
