Champions League: Marco Asensio brings Real Madrid victory at Ajax Amsterdam

Real Madrid won the first leg of the Champions League knockout round at Ajax Amsterdam 2-1 (0-0). The first goal for the visitors was scored by Karim Benzema (60th minute), while Hakim Ziyech made up for Ajax (75 '). In the 73rd minute, Santiago Solari replaced Marco Asensio, who scored the winner in the 87th minute for Real. The newly introduced in the knockout stage video evidence had previously prevented Amsterdam in the 37th minute went into the lead.

Ajax dominated the game in the first half and came on several occasions to good opportunities. After a mistake by Real's left-back Sergio Reguilón, the ball landed on Dusan Tadic, who prevailed over Sergio Ramos, but only hit the post with his shot (26.). Ten minutes later, Hakim Ziyech appeared free in front of the Real goal, but Thibaut Courtois came to meet him and fended off the ball.

The first goal fell in the 37th minute in goal. After a corner Matthijs de Ligt failed with a header to Courtois, the free ball headed Nicolás Tagliafico over the Real-Keeper away. After the break, the guests finally came to more urgent occasions. A deposition of Dani Carvajal on the edge of the penalty area, however, brought Benzema with too little precision on the Ajax goal (51). David Neres appeared in a counterattack after a long sprint in front of Courtois, but could not finish with a weak foot (52.).

After a long ball from Reguilón, Vinicius Júnior prevailed on the left and served Benzema in the middle. The Frenchman scored the 1: 0 opening goal (60th). Ajax lost a ball from Madrid's Lucas Vázquez to move forward quickly to equalize after David Neres's cross on Hakim Ziyech (75 ').
