New Progressive Party Representative María Milagros Charbonier said Wednesday that she has "no reaction" to the statements of Puerto Rican figures of the artistic environment in rejection of the project of religious freedom approved in the House of Representatives.
"They have the right to do what they understand. The project is clear, I go back and I repeat. Read it Read the report of that project that is not mine, it is administration, in consensus with some members of the LGBT community, "he said.
"I repeat, the wheel is invented, it is a legislation passed by the United States Congress, replicated by several states and that the Supreme Court affirms that it does not discriminate against anyone," said Charbonier.
The representative said that she is not afraid that the call that the artists are making affects the possibility that the project becomes a law.
"Here we voted the legislators, 34 representatives were convinced that this project is totally and absolutely constitutional," he said.
Do you respect the LGBT community ?, he was asked.
"How can I not respect her; Of course, yes, "replied Charbonier.
On Tuesday, the House of Representatives endorsed the measure filed by Charbonier that orders the establishment of reasonable accommodations so that government employees do not have to attend certain citizens if they understand that their beliefs or behavior clashes with their religious convictions.
Puerto Rican artists Ricky Martin, Kany García and Ednita Nazario today used social networks to repudiate the approval of the project. The star Ricky Martin said on Twitter and Instagram that it is a measure that allows "hatred and lack of respect for individuality."
"While the world calls for equity, respect for diversity and the defense of human rights, the House of Representatives and the Governor of Puerto Rico are urging a measure that reverses all of the foregoing in order to allow separation, prejudice, hatred and the lack of respect for individuality, "said the singer.
