Malahide: Ireland fell to a one-run defeat in a game that saw a terrific chase. Chasing a 360-run lead by New Zealand, Ireland fell one run short of victory. Ireland scored 359 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in the allotted overs.

Ireland needed 10 runs in the last over to win. But Ireland managed to score 8 runs. Three runs were needed off the last ball to win and two for a tie. But Ireland managed to get only a single through the bye. Had Ireland won here, it would have become the fifth biggest chasing win in ODI history. Paul Stirling and Harry Tector thrashed New Zealand without their top bowlers.

Stirling returned with 120 runs off 103 balls. 14 fours and 5 sixes flew off the bat of the Ireland opener. Harry Tector scored 108 runs off 106 balls with 7 fours and 5 sixes. Ireland were 62 runs for the loss of two wickets and the combination of Stirling and Tector returned by adding 172 runs.

New Zealand swept the three ODI series with the win. New Zealand won the toss and elected to bat in the final ODI. Henty Nicholls and Glenn Phillips smashed Guptill’s century. Guptill scored 115 runs off 126 balls with 15 fours and two sixes. Nicholls scored 79 runs off 54 balls and Phillips scored 47 runs.
