In great danger due to the disappointing results of his team, Graham Potter is not certain to end the season on the Chelsea bench. A dismissal of the English manager, however, would cost the London club a fortune.
Potter is in the Chelsea hot seat
Chelsea are in crisis. Unable to win in the last six games in all competitions, the London club even suffered a third consecutive defeat against Tottenham (0-2) on Sunday in the league.
In this difficult period for the Blues, current 10th in the Premier League and beaten in the knockout stages of the Champions League by Dortmund (0-1), manager Graham Potter is weakened and many fans are demanding his departure. Appointed on September 8 to succeed Thomas Tuchel, the 47-year-old technician has a disappointing record of 9 wins, 7 draws and 10 defeats.
The enormous cost of firing Potter
For the moment, the London management has not yet let go of its coach. But for how much longer? If the results don’t improve quickly, the Englishman will leave and Chelsea will pay him a fortune. Indeed, the Mirror announces that the club will have to pay around 57 million euros Potter, whose contract runs until 2027. A record for a formation which had spent, for example, a little more than 30 M€ to dismiss Antonio Tale in 2018.
As a reminder, Chelsea had paid Brighton €25 million to release Potter according to the latest estimates from the British press. If the adventure comes to an end in the next few days, the London club could therefore pay 82 M€, excluding salaries, for around six months of collaboration! But with €611.5m paid out in transfers since last summer, club owner Todd Boehly is no longer crazy…
