Chelsea secured a place in the eighth finals of the Champions League on Tuesday. The Londoners won thanks to two beautiful goals with 1-2 at Red Bull Salzburg. AC Milan did good business by winning 0-4 at Dinamo Zagreb.
Chelsea opened the score in Austria after more than twenty minutes. Mateo Kovacic shot the ball beautifully into the top left corner from the edge of the box.
Shortly after the break, Red Bull Salzburg tied the score via Junior Adamu. The Austrian hit from close range after a measured cross from former Ajax player Maximilian Wöber.
Kai Havertz brought Chelsea 1-2 after more than an hour with a beautifully placed shot into the top left corner. The Londoners no longer gave that lead, with Hakim Ziyech coming in in the final phase.
Thanks to the victory, Chelsea is on ten points in group E after five games. ‘The Blues’ can no longer be overtaken by Red Bull Salzburg and AC Milan.
In Croatia, AC Milan recorded an easy win at Dinamo Zagreb. Matteo Gabbia scored the opening goal after fifteen minutes by heading in from a free kick by Sandro Tonali.
Rafael Leão doubled the margin early in the second half after a nice solo. The Portuguese dribbled through the defense of Dinamo Zagreb from the halfway line. Olivier Giroud scored a penalty after an hour and Robert Ljubicic determined the final score with an own goal at 0-4.
The win moves Milan to second place in this group. The Italians have a point against Red Bull Salzburg next week to qualify for the knockout phase.
