WASHINGTON (AP) – A woman from Chicago has become the second American patient diagnosed with the new virus similar to pneumonia in China, health officials announced Friday.
The 60-year-old woman returned from China on January 13 without showing signs of illness, but a few days later she called her doctor to report that she felt sick.
Doctors at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention say the woman is hospitalized to prevent the spread of the virus and is well, and the people she had close contact with are being monitored.
Dr. Nancy Messonier of the CDC said the risk to the US public. UU. It remains low, but it is likely that more cases will be diagnosed in the next few days, since the virus appears to have an incubation period of two weeks.
