José Massú, lawyer for Byron Castillo, referred to the complaint filed by the Chilean Football Federation against the Barcelona player from Guayaquil, case that will be investigated by FIFA.
In an interview with Radio Redonda of Ecuador, Massú assured that “Chile has a zero percent chance of going to the World Cup. Byron Castillo has been, is and will be, until the day he dies, an Ecuadorian.”
“I am ashamed that the Chilean Federation, which could not qualify for the World Cup because it did not have the merits to do so, does what it is doing, defaming an Ecuadorian accusing him of a crime, “said the soccer player’s legal representative.
Regarding Chile’s claim, the lawyer pointed out that everything started with “news from Colombia that later gave rise to the Chilean Federation, who didn’t even make it into the top six to be able to claim a ticket to the World Cup.”
“Castillo has never had a complaint in his court, zero. No one has legally questioned his Ecuadorian nationality. No one has. It doesn’t exist,” he stressed.
“What existed in his time was a sanction by the Ecuadorian Football Federation that sanctioned the player without a procedure, because they presumed from a birth certificate of a homonym in Colombia that this was Byron Castillo”, explained José Massú.
The lawyer for the Ecuadorian national team once again made it clear that “Byron Castillo has never lived in Colombia, he has been and has played all his life in Ecuador. I don’t know where this madness comes from.” Furthermore, he warned that “Castillo can go to court and ask for compensation for the insults against him.”
