The agreement was signed on Tuesday at an aviation industry exhibition in the southern Chinese city of Zhuhai.

The partnership plans describe the combination of two technologies – maglev to eliminate bottom friction and vacuum hoses to reduce aerodynamic drag – to create a "supersonic" means of transport, Geely said in a statement.

CASIC is working on a system that can carry trains at a top speed of 1,000 km / h and investigate technologies that could be up to 4,000 km / h in the future.

Geely and CASIC will "pool" their capabilities, the statement says, but they have not given details of their investments in the joint effort or timeframe.
