Churches on Intercultural Week for Refugee Admission

Mith a joint appeal by the Christian churches to take in refugees, the nationwide Intercultural Week opened in Heidelberg on Sunday. In view of the terrible suffering in Ukraine, the people who have been hoping for rescue in Afghanistan and the neighboring countries for months should not be forgotten, the Catholic, Protestant and Greek Orthodox Church in Germany declared under the heading #offen geht.

In her sermon at the opening ecumenical service in Heidelberg, the Baden state bishop Heike Springhart explained: “We have to keep our cities and communities, our country, open to people who are looking for protection and need protection.” As part of the Intercultural Week, around 5,000 events are planned in 500 towns and communities up to October 2nd. The national “Refugee Day” on 30 September will also be integrated into the series of events.
