*“Welcome Corps” builds on the extraordinary response the American people have provided over the past year in welcoming our Afghan allies, war-displaced Ukrainians, Venezuelan citizens, and people of other nationalities fleeing contexts of violence and oppression, said the Secretary of State.
A new program called “Welcome Corps” was launched last week by the State Department of this country through which citizens and non-profit organizations will be able to sponsor refugees, which for conservatives in the Republican Party puts a solution to the current one even further away. immigration system that they consider useless.
In Spanish, the “Welcome Corps,” as announced by Secretary of State Antony Blinken, will allow “Americans to sponsor refugees arriving through the United States Refugee Admissions Program (USRAP), support in their resettlement directly and make a difference by welcoming these new neighbors into your communities.”
But for Yuma County resident David Lara, who has been Vice Chairman of the Republican Party in previous years and is a current member of the body, “this measure is a win-win for Democrats and nonprofits, because they receive federal money , and this Democratic-derived government wins future votes by trumpeting this false compassion to foreigners.”
Lara, reiterated what since the summer of 2018, when the massive migratory phenomenon began to register on the border with Mexico with the arrival of the so-called “migrant caravans” declared to this reporter: “the Democratic Party promised in the Obama campaign a Comprehensive immigration reform, with that flag their president won and they had super control of the Senate, but they have never proposed any solution for a legal path for millions of ‘dreamers’ and their undocumented families in the country and then they lost and demanded to the Republicans that there is no immigration reform.”
Therefore, he described “Welcome Corps as an aspirin for a more serious illness.”
The non-profit agencies that promote helping the undocumented have encouraged more foreigners to opt for illegal entry into the United States, he considered: “and I come back to the same thing, that the executive directors of the non-profit take them home, not let them distribute them.”
And he deepened his sarcastic “win-win” by assuming that “some non-profits have already been proven to help new migrants to be indoctrinated, make them feel that thanks to the government support on which they are made dependent they should be grateful to the promoters of this type of program and commit them to vote for the Democrats, but administration after administration continue to use them and there is none that is so carried out and brought immigration reform”.
He said that there are generations of Latinos who have already realized this and that is why they decided to support Republican electoral proposals.
How does Welcome Corps work?
According to Antony Blinken’s announcement, the “Welcome Corps” program is designed to take advantage of the willingness and abilities of Americans who are interested in serving as private sponsors, “and may include members of civic and religious organizations, veterans, communities of diasporas, companies, colleges and universities and others”.
In the first year of the program, the goal is to have at least 10,000 Americans apply as private sponsors and host a minimum of 5,000 refugees from around the world.
On the welcomecorps.org site, the rules for applying to the program are listed, and there are tabs or sections with videos from five communities in the states of Chicago, Texas, Arizona, Connecticut and Wisconsin, where it is shown that there has been support for asylees.
The Secretary of State explained that “Welcome Corps builds on the extraordinary response the American people have provided over the past year in welcoming our Afghan allies, war-displaced Ukrainians, Venezuelan citizens, and people of other nationalities who They flee from contexts of violence and oppression”.
In the face of unprecedented global displacement, he said, the United States will continue to lead the international community in the humanitarian response, including the resettlement of refugees.
He concludes that by launching “Welcome Corps,” we continue to build on a proud tradition of providing shelter and living out the spirit and generosity of the American people by committing to welcoming refugees who need our support.
