The City of Science Darmstadt and the Schaustellerverband are looking forward to a beautiful Christmas market in 2021
The Darmstadt Christmas market has been a popular destination for citizens during the Advent season for decades. Many people travel from near and far to experience the magic of the downtown booth. Due to the current corona pandemic, this cannot take place as usual this year either. Instead, the City of Science Darmstadt is planning a decentralized Christmas market in various squares in downtown Darmstadt.
“There should be another Christmas market in the city center, but the usual image of the dense crowd in the aisles and between the stalls on Marktplatz and Friedensplatz as well as around the White Tower will not appear. Because as the organizer of major urban events, it is still our responsibility to protect the health of festival visitors and to implement the currently applicable rules. We are planning a Christmas market, which this year will start on November 15th due to the special situation, but which will be closed on Dead Sunday. The market is made decentralized while observing distance and hygiene measures, ”emphasizes Mayor Jochen Partsch.
It is currently planned that during the Christmas season on the Friedensplatz, the Karolinenplatz between the Hessisches Landesmuseum Darmstadt and the House of History, the Luisenplatz, in the upper Wilhelminenstrasse / Wilhelminenplatz and on the Ludwigsplatz, the showmen will have the opportunity to serve mulled wine, sweets and savory items for sale. The dealers are placed on the marketplace. Children’s rides are also planned on Friedensplatz, Ernst-Ludwigs-Platz and Luisenplatz.
“Overall, this means that there will be fewer stands than usual, with more space and wider aisles between them. In addition, catering stands must implement the currently applicable Corona rules, which can still change during the market. At the same time, this also means that the snack and mulled wine providers have to adhere to higher requirements in terms of distance and hygiene rules than pure retailers. We are nevertheless confident that we will be able to enjoy a nice Christmas market with our mulled wine princess this year, ”explains city treasurer André Schellenberg.
The City of Science Darmstadt and Darmstadt Marketing GmbH expressly point out that this year’s concept is based on the currently applicable Corona regulations of the State of Hesse and reserves the right to make short-term changes depending on the requirements.
