Around 55,000 visitors in front of Schönbrunn Palace and millions in front of the television sets worldwide watched the Vienna Summer Night Concert 2023.
VIENNA/HIETZING. It’s one of the biggest classical music events of the year: the Vienna Summer Night Concert. On Thursday evening, June 8th, the event took place in the park in front of Schönbrunn Palace and was attended by more than 80 countries broadcast live worldwide.
In the past, the traditional, admission-free open-air event of the Vienna Philharmonic has always been a guarantee for an audience, weather permitting. So also this year, because according to the organizers were around 55.000 visitors on site.

The focus this year was on works that span a range from French Romanticism to Impressionism. The ensemble of the Vienna Philharmonic was on Thursday by the Canadian conductor Yannick Nézet-Séguin, the music director of the Metropolitan Opera in New York. At their side was another debutante, the Latvian opera singer Elina Garanca. She sang three arias from Bizet’s “Carmen”, Gounod’s “Sapho” and Saint-Saëns “Samson et Dalila”. “She has gold in her throat,” said the Philharmoniker board Daniel Frogauer before her performance on stage.
