The Education and Science Union today called for relevant regional actions by employed teachers. According to the GEW, school employees in Braunschweig, Göttingen, Hameln, Hanover, Oldenburg, Osnabrück and Wolfsburg will take part. There are around 100,000 employees at schools in Lower Saxony. 24,000 of them are employees of collective bargaining agreements, i.e. not civil servants, and are therefore allowed to take part in the strike.
Youth strike day in Hanover
According to managing director Sebastian Wertmüller, Ver.di is also planning a youth strike day in the state capital. “But it could also be that there will be another strike action in Braunschweig,” said Wertmüller. According to ver.di, young people in the public service of the federal states want to draw attention to their demands and expectations with the nationwide youth campaign day. Among other things, trainees from university hospitals should take part, it said.
Unions are demanding five percent more wages
In the current wage dispute, the union only called on state workers to go on warning strikes on Tuesday. In the conflict, Verdi and the official association dbb are demanding five percent more salary for the nationwide more than one million state employees, but at least 150 euros per month, in the health sector even 300 euros more. Apprentices, students and interns should receive 100 euros more per month. The collective bargaining association of German states (TdL) rejected the demands as unrealistic.
