Is the electrical problem the battery? The electric vehicle segment has grown significantly and the evolution of the entire ecosystem can be clearly seen, especially in terms of autonomy and charging points. However, vehicle autonomy continues to be one of the areas of strong research and there are simply impressive solutions that show that we are on the right track.
A new battery that guarantees 1000 km of autonomy and that can charge up to 80% in just 10 minutes was recently unveiled.
Qilin battery has an energy density of 255 Wh/kg
The Chinese giant CATL revealed a fantastic novelty for the electric segment. It is a battery that guarantees 1000 km of autonomy and has the ability to be recharged, up to 80%, in just 10 minutes, fantastic isn't it? According to the channel insideevs, the new generation accumulator will have greater efficiency and energy density and will reach the market as early as next year.
The battery, named Qilin, has an energy density of 255 Wh/kg. CATL revealed that from 2025 it will supply state-of-the-art cylindrical cells to BMW, guaranteeing high performance to a new family of electric vehicles produced by the German company.
Despite all the innovation, CATL is not going through the best of times. In the first quarter of 2022, due to rising raw material costs, profits fell by 24%. In May, the company said it expected better results for the second quarter, having adjusted its pricing tables.
It should be noted that CATL sold the equivalent of 41.4 GWh of batteries in the first 4 months of the year alone, twice as much as LG Energy Solution, which "only" sold 20 GWh.
