Muscat: Omani Medical Association (OMA) President Dr. Waleed Al Sadjali said. This was announced at a press conference on Oman Health Exhibition and Conference (OHEC). The project will be rolled out in a phased manner involving various categories of private companies operating in Oman. Under the scheme, private sector employees and their dependents will be covered by compulsory health insurance. Tourists and visitors to Oman will be brought under the ambit of the program.
Health insurance is one of the fastest growing segments of the insurance industry in the country. The Cabinet Council had already approved compulsory health insurance for private sector workers. The decision was part of ensuring health coverage for all people under the Labor Act. It was announced that the project will be implemented from last year. However, due to some reasons, it was delayed.
Earlier, the authorities had decided to implement the scheme in establishments with more than 100 workers in the first phase and in establishments with 50 to 100 workers in the second phase.
