Ospina assured that Cali runs a high risk because the department of Valle del Cauca represents 16% of the country’s pork industry.

In addition to the Dominican Republic, the presence of this disease has also been confirmed in Mexico.
“The accidental introduction of swine fever through something as simple as a ham sandwich would devastate our industry. Today more than ever we must establish a prevention strategy at our ports of entry, “he said.
That is why Ospina asked that the inspection of livestock products and by-products in ports and airports be increased through the health authorities to prevent African swine fever.
“It is extremely necessary to ensure the proper disposal of food remains on airplanes or ships that come from risk areas and avoid the introduction of a pathogen that has a 99% mortality rate,” he added.
It is also important to clarify that the disease does not affect humans.
