Continued search for a missing patrol on the Ecuador-Colombia border

May 18, 2018, 08:51 Quito, May 18 (Prensa Latina) Ecuador’s army continues its search for a military patrol with which it has lost contact since six days ago, in the province of Carchi, bordering Colombia. According to a press release issued by the entity, the communication was lost on May 16 last, while performing surveillance, protection and recognition of border milestones. The text indicates that the adverse weather conditions in the area, presumably forced the military to take shelter in a place where they lost contact with their unit of origin. Also, the note gives account of the activation of the search protocols to locate the patrol. The army aviation brigade for the execution of aerial surveys must be incorporated into the actions, warned the authorities. The incident occurred four days after the disappearance in that same province, of a soldier belonging to the tactical Detachment ‘Tobar Donoso’, of whom there is still no information. Identified as second corporal Wilson David Ilaquiche, the soldier left last Saturday of his base with other three companions, without the respective authorization, towards the neighboring town. Carchi borders Colombia and the Ecuadorian province of Esmeraldas, the target of violent actions since the beginning of this year, led by the Oliver Sinisterra Front, led by a dissident of the ex-guerrilla Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia-People’s Army, identified as alias Guacho . The incidents, considered by the national authorities as terrorist acts, resulted in the death of four soldiers, the kidnapping and subsequent murder of three workers of the newspaper El Comercio, and the capture of a couple, whose situation is still unknown. Ecuadorian and Colombian authorities work together to guarantee the security of the border area, recover the bodies of the communicators and release the kidnapped couple, in addition to bringing those responsible to justice. Meanwhile, the relatives of the press team and the other plagiarized Ecuadorians insist on demanding from the executive actions that allow them to return to this Andean nation of their loved ones. mem / scm
