Contraband of merchandise valued at more than 22 million pesos seized at Punta Cana airport

Santo Domingo, DR.

The General Directorate of Customs (DGA) announced this Thursday the seizure of a million-dollar shipment of electronic devices, who intended to enter the country irregularly through the Punta Cana International Airport.

Through a press release, they indicate that the stash of 14 bags came from the city of Miami, Florida, under a tax assessment that indicated that the shipment contained clothing, shoes, displays, mannequins, among other clothing, had cell phones, tablets, iPads and other electronic devices with a value amounting to 22 million pesos.

DGA officers detained for investigation purposes the driver of the truck, where the shipment was found at the airport facilities, as well as two alleged employees of the importing company that accompanied him. The suspects, whose names are withheld for investigation purposes, were referred to justice, at the request of the Public Ministry.

In recent months, the General Directorate of Customs has detected and prevented various attempts to smuggle illicit goods.
