The US government and Senate have agreed on an unprecedented aid package: $ 2 trillion has been spoken to deal with the corona crisis.
On Wednesday, shortly after 6 a.m. Swiss time, Presidential Office spokesman Eric Ueland announced the historic package with “we have an agreement”. The measures are designed to boost the economy and cushion the consequences of the corona epidemic. The package includes, among other things, direct aid payments to US taxpayers, an improvement in unemployment insurance, more money for hospitals and a very large credit program for businesses.
Vote on Wednesday
The agreement had been preceded by a day-long argument. The Democrats accused the Republicans of wanting to spend too much money on business and neglecting citizens. The Republicans, in turn, complained that the Democrats wanted to use the money for projects that had nothing to do with the Corona epidemic.
After the Senate, the House of Representatives must also formally approve the legislative package. The leadership of the parliamentary chamber controlled by the Democrats has already been involved in the negotiations in the Senate. The votes are due to take place this Wednesday. (vof)
