Corona with twelve residents in asylum seekers’ center

In an asylum seekers’ center in Delfzijl in Groningen, twelve residents have been tested positive for the corona virus since the end of last week. All infected have been placed in isolation and their housemates are in quarantine, the Central Agency for the Reception of Asylum Seekers (COA) said. Five asylum seekers belonging to a risk group have been voluntarily transferred to another location.

The first infection surfaced at the end of last week, when a resident of the azc reported complaints to the medical service. The contact investigation that followed when this resident tested positive revealed even more infections. “Subsequently, contact investigations were carried out again around the people who also turned out to be infected with the virus during these tests, which so far led to the number of twelve confirmed corona infections,” according to the COA.

Several activities in and around the asylum seekers’ center have been suspended due to the infections. The rest of the people staying in the reception center have been asked to observe the corona rules extra carefully and to raise the alarm in case of complaints.
