Coronavirus concentrations in wastewater are rising sharply

The concentration of coronavirus in wastewater is rising sharply, the National Center for Public Health (NNK) said on its website on Tuesday.

It was written that at week 42 the coronavirus concentration of wastewater samples showed a strong increase compared to the slow growth of the previous weeks in Budapest, Pécs, Salgótarján, Szeged, Székesfehérvár and Tatabánya, as well as in the agglomeration around Budapest.

The decrease was observed only in Miskolc. Elevated concentrations were already measured at week 42 in nearly half of the settlements studied. The NNK is asking those who have not yet done so to take advantage of the free vaccination option.

Coronavirus concentrations in wastewater are generally good predictors of epidemiological trends in the coming days, as the virus appears in wastewater before people develop symptoms and, in the wrong case, are hospitalized.
