Coronavirus: three new infections and another death in Salzburg

The number of tests carried out in the federal states has repeatedly triggered political discussions, most recently in the dispute between those responsible for the City of Vienna and Interior Minister Karl Nehammer (ÖVP). If you look at the number of tests carried out, the federal capital is not only in a good position in absolute terms, it is also at the top in terms of population.

However, Tyrol is the leader. As of Monday (May 18, 2020), there were 66,285 tests with 758,000 inhabitants, i.e. about every eleventh (8.7 percent).

30,480 corona tests in Salzburg

It is followed by Salzburg, where a total of 30,480 tests have been carried out so far, every 18th (5.5 percent of 558,000 inhabitants). Around every 22nd was tested in Vorarlberg, 17,898 tests with 397,000 inhabitants, which corresponds to a rate of 4.5 percent.

Styria is at the bottom

The federal capital comes in fourth place. From there, 83,745 tests were reported in the same period, which means that with a population of 1.9 million, about every 23 or 4.4 percent of the population was checked. Carinthia (14,011 test, every 40th or 2.5 percent of the 561,000 inhabitants), Lower Austria (49,590 test, every 34th or 2.9 percent of the 1.7 million inhabitants) and Styria (41,389 tests, every 30th or 3.3 percent of the 1.2 million inhabitants).

The situation is similar in Burgenland and Upper Austria. 10,384 tests (3.5 percent of the 294,000 inhabitants) were carried out in Burgenland and 52,091 tests (3.5 percent of the 1.5 million inhabitants) in Upper Austria, in both countries about every 28th tested
