Pamela K. Chen said that Marin, the former president of the Brazilian Confederation (CBF), was released early in part because of the coronavirus pandemic. Prisons in the United States are reporting an accelerating spread of the disease, and thousands of inmates have been released to limit the number of potential victims. Marin was serving a four-year sentence which was scheduled to end in December.
Chen cited “Marin’s advanced age of 87, significant deterioration in health, high risk of serious health consequences due to the current Covid-19 epidemic, non-violent offender status and the enforcement of 80% of his initial sentence “ as reasons for his early release. She has not released the date when Marin will be released from Allenwood prison in Pennsylvania.
