Could Eid 2022 be Homecoming? This is the Expert View Page all

KOMPAS.com – Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin stated that Eid 2022 could have been faced differently.

This depends on the achievement of the target for the second dose of vaccination by the end of April.

The government itself has a target to complete the second dose of injection of 70 percent of the population by the end of April 2022.

“We can face Eid this time differently, compared to previous Eids. With the condition that the second dose of vaccination must be accelerated,” he said, quoted from Kompas.com(27/2/2022).

Two years earlier, Lebaran was marked by restrictions and restrictions on going home. The homecoming ban will be implemented from 6-17 May 2021 to prevent a spike in Covid-19 cases.

Griffith University epidemiologist Dicky Budiman analyzes that the current homecoming flow will be difficult to avoid.

The reason is that this year is Eid, the third year since the pandemic struck and people’s desire to go home for Eid will be even greater.

“Realistically, the current homecoming flow is difficult to avoid, preventing it is also difficult. This third year, the enthusiasm is huge, it’s even bigger,” said Dicky, when contacted Kompas.com (28/2/2022).

However, Dicky has the principle that any potential that can be prevented is better prevented.

According to him, if you can minimize the large movements that might potentially intensify the spread of the corona virus, that would be much better.

“Therefore, it is clear that there is no recommendation (for going home), prohibiting it, I think, is also difficult,” he said.

Tightening with vaccination

Dicky said that going home could be done if the trend of Covid-19 cases had slowed in the regions.

With a note, the government continues to tighten by only allowing people with complete vaccination status to go home for Eid.

People who go home must also always apply health protocols, such as washing hands, wearing masks, maintaining distance, staying away from crowds, and reducing mobility (5 M).

Meanwhile, according to his view, Indonesia is currently in the recovery stage.

If all parties are disciplined and consistently apply health protocols, fasting this year will be relatively calm.

“Relatively calm with health protocols. The risk improves during fasting, but I remind all of us to be patient and restrain ourselves. If you can’t go home, don’t go,” Dicky urged.

Once again he reminded, even though it was sloping, vigilance about the spread of the corona virus still had to be built.

“So people don’t ignore it. Even if vaccination coverage increases, if you can limit yourself, it’s even better,” he said.
