The historic collapse of oil prices in the spring led to a significant reduction in fuel prices in various parts of the world, including Bulgaria.
As of Sept. 22, U.S. crude oil, for example, is trading at about $ 39.6 a barrel. For comparison, a year earlier it sold for more than 57 dollars per barrel, according to statistics on the specialized site OilPrice.
At the same time, the average fuel prices on the Bulgarian market as of today are BGN 1.79 per liter for A95 petrol and BGN 1.80 for diesel. Exactly a year earlier, their average value was BGN 2.22 and BGN 2.28 per liter, respectively, or 43 and 48 stotinki more expensive.
Fuel can stay cheap for a long time. By how much have the prices in our country fallen so far?
Gasoline and diesel are over 40 cents cheaper now compared to 2019
With similar fuel prices to date in Bulgaria, they are one of the lowest in the European Union (EU), and cheaper to fill the tank of your car is available only in Hungary and Poland, according to the platform Fuelo.net. There, gasoline is BGN 1.73 and 1.45 per liter, respectively, and diesel – BGN 1.79 and 1.50 per liter.
From the statistics of the site it is clear that there are several countries in the world where the fuel is less than 1 lev per liter. Logically, among these countries are some of the key producers and exporters of oil in the world.
The cheapest is in Libya, where a liter of petrol is sold for an average of only BGN 0.25 per liter, and diesel is on average BGN 0.19 per liter. In other words, a liter of gasoline is sold there more than 7 times cheaper than in Bulgaria, and a liter of diesel – almost 10 times cheaper.
Immediately after Libya, the country is Algeria and Kuwait, where gasoline costs between 0.30 and 0.40 levs per liter. Diesel is sold for BGN 0.19 in the first, but in the second it is significantly more expensive – BGN 0.64 per liter.
For Saudi Arabia, the prices are BGN 0.43 per liter of gasoline and BGN 0.36 for diesel, respectively. In the USA, the first fuel is BGN 0.84 per liter, but for the second the price exceeds BGN 1, or more precisely the average is BGN 1.12 per liter. Fuel is already sold below this limit in Egypt and Tunisia, according to the data.
