Würzburg (dpa / lby) – The police in Lower Franconia examined 30 properties on suspicion of child pornography and arrested several suspects for the time being. The accused are all male and between 14 and 61 years old, the police and prosecutors announced on Friday. They are accused of either possessing, acquiring or distributing the images of serious child sexual abuse. Due to a lack of grounds for detention, they were released after the searches on Wednesday and Thursday.
The investigators searched 13 properties in the Main-Rhön region, eleven properties in the Untermain area and six properties in the Mainfranken area. In addition to child pornography material, amphetamine and a live firearm and ammunition were found on a suspect. With another, the police officers secured a forbidden butterfly knife.
The police headquarters in Lower Franconia reports a very strong increase in criminal offenses in connection with the distribution of pornographic writings. In Lower Franconia, the number of cases rose from 263 in 2019 to 635 in 2021. A police spokesman also explained this with a high level of control pressure. The three criminal police departments in the administrative district have their own working groups for investigations into child pornography.
