Current events – EU Commission wants to cap gas prices if necessary

In the event of a complete failure of Russian gas supplies, the EU Commission wants to cap prices for consumers if necessary. As the “Welt am Sonntag” claims to have learned in advance from a Commission paper on “short-term energy market interventions”, the Commission is proposing that the Member States introduce a price cap for natural gas. The cap is intended to protect customers from a cost explosion. Funding this intervention, however, required significant sums.
